Designing a Block of the Month Pattern

Have you ever thought about creating a Block of the Month pattern? Oi. Not me. I'm too impatient for that. But then Portland Modern Quilt Guild happened. And my mind was changed.

Enter... Mother. Now this isn't your run of the mill pattern. It's modern, it's bold, it covers lots of techniques... and most importantly, it's relevant.

I knew if I was going to devote time each month to write a block, make a block, promote a block, and all that goes with that, that I wanted it to have a message. And so Mother is about our Mother Earth. It's made up of twelve tear drops, each representing a different struggle our planet is going through today.

Take, for instance, January's block. It's all about health. Every single human living on this planet will, and currently is, concerned with our health. My goal with each block is to make them universal enough that they can be devoted to the maker's personal connection to that crisis. So, to you this block may represent Covid-19. It may represent cancer, or emergency response, or research, or care access, or care costs, or whatever you would like.

I can't wait to show you the rest of the blocks, I'll be posting a blog post each month highlighting them. Until then, if you're interested in joining me on this very unique block-of-the-month journey, grab the pattern in my shop and let's get creating for raising awareness and change!

All my thread,

Tara
